昨日（４月２９日）のワールド・ビジネス・サテライトを午後１１時からみて感じたことがある。私は拙稿『食糧を捨てるな』でも書いたが、スーパーやコンビニが弁当など食糧の売れ残りを大量破棄していることに抵抗感を強く持つ。炊き出しの情報が飢えた人に配布される時代だ。当たり前だろう。
しかし旧来の商法を守り、賞味期限まじかでも値下げを許さない本部がある。そのPR活動の一環か、日本語版フォーブスなどで、回収した食品を堆肥にして「活用」している、などの記事(広告？）が載っていた。公取委も地位の乱用として割引禁止に注目しだしたから、PRに必死なのかもしれない。昨日のWBSのニュースでも堆肥化の情景を報道していた訳だ。私はWBSも民間の営利を無視できない報道番組である以上、なんらかのアウンの呼吸が仮にあっても非難する気持はない。むしろ新しい報道のビジネスモデルとして当初から注目していた。がしかし、最低限の節度も必要であろう。きわめて巧く作られていたから不審に思う人はすくないだろうが、私は違和感をもった。微妙な舵取りをうまくとってさらに日本のそしてひいては世界のビジネスマンを勇気付ける番組であり続けて欲しい。
